Future Leaders of Change

The children of Kheel Barser did not wait to be asked. They showed up, they worked, and they led. All they needed was to be recognised for it.

Overview

The Challenge

In most environmental campaigns, children are treated as an audience — recipients of education, future adults who will one day understand why it all matters. Earth Healers Foundation believes differently. Children are not future environmental leaders. They are present ones — already observing, already caring, already capable of influence — if given the chance to act.

The challenge was to find a way to channel the natural enthusiasm and moral seriousness of the children of Kheel Jasli into genuine participation, and to ensure that their contribution was acknowledged in a way that would deepen their commitment and inspire others.

What We did

During cleanup drives, awareness sessions, and community events, the children of Kheel Barser emerged as some of the most dedicated and energetic participants. They showed up consistently, worked harder than many adults, and — crucially — they took the message home.

Parents who had been indifferent to the foundation’s work began engaging when their children came home talking about what they had learned and done.Earth Healers Foundation recognised these young champions formally — organising a recognition ceremony at which children who had participated consistently and led by example were honoured with certificates acknowledging their contribution as Future Leaders of Change.

The ceremony was held at local schools, with teachers and parents present, ensuring that the recognition was public, meaningful, and embedded in the institutions that shape children’s lives.

Impact & Current status

The impact of the recognition programme extended well beyond the children themselves. Teachers reported increased environmental awareness and initiative in their classrooms. Parents whose children had been recognised became more engaged with the foundation's work.

The ceremony created a virtuous cycle: recognised children became ambassadors, encouraging their peers to get involved, expanding the base of youth participation in environmental action.

What's next

Earth Healers Foundation is developing a structured youth environmental programme — the Earth Healers Junior programme — that will give children a defined role and pathway in the foundation's work, from awareness education and cleanup participation to tree planting, monitoring, and eventually youth-led advocacy. The future of Kheel Jasli is being built by these children, and we intend to invest in them accordingly.
