Barog panchayat Awareness Program

When the Barog Panchayat invited Dr. Priya Saklani to address their community, it was an acknowledgement that the work of Earth Healers Foundation had been noticed — and that its message was needed beyond the villages it had already transformed.

Overview

The Challenge

Awareness and behaviour change do not happen through signage and pamphlets alone. They require conversation, trust, and the kind of credibility that comes from demonstrated action. In many rural communities across Himachal Pradesh, environmental education has been delivered in top-down, lecture-format sessions that fail to connect with the realities of daily village life.

The Barog Panchayat recognised that their community needed a different kind of engagement — one grounded in practical experience, delivered by someone who had actually done the work on the ground, and broad enough to address not just environmental issues but the interconnected questions of health, gender, and community wellbeing.

What We did

Dr. Priya Saklani led a community-focused awareness and educational outreach programme at Barog Panchayat — conducting sessions that addressed health and hygiene, sustainable waste management practices, the importance of a clean environment. The sessions were participatory and conversational, drawing on the real experiences of residents rather than delivering abstract environmental principles. Dr. Priya spoke from her own experience of transforming Kheel Jasli — making the possibility of change tangible and local rather than distant and theoretical.

Impact & Current status

The programme was received warmly and generated meaningful conversation within the community. Several participants expressed interest in replicating elements of the Earth Healers Foundation model in their own areas.

The invitation from Barog Panchayat has also opened doors for future collaboration with local government institutions across the Solan district.

What's next

Earth Healers Foundation is committed to expanding its awareness and educational outreach programme to panchayats and institutions across Himachal Pradesh. We believe that the knowledge and experience we have accumulated in Kheel Jasli and Kheel Barser is a resource that belongs to every community in the region — and we intend to share it as widely as possible.
