Clean Water Project

Clean water is not a privilege — it is a fundamental human right. When the natural water sources of Kheel Jasli dried up and what remained became contaminated, Earth Healers Foundation refused to accept it as inevitable.

Overview

The Challenge

Water has always been the lifeblood of mountain villages in Himachal Pradesh. Kheel Jasli was no exception — for generations, its residents depended on natural springs and local water channels for drinking, cooking, and daily life. But the rapid and unregulated construction boom that transformed the village over recent years changed everything.

Builders blocked natural drainage channels to accommodate new structures. Grey water from dozens of new buildings began seeping into the ground, contaminating what little remained of the natural water supply. Existing water sources dried up one by one as the water table was disrupted by the sheer volume of new construction. By the time Earth Healers Foundation arrived on the ground, residents — particularly the poorer households and migrant labourers who had no means to purchase bottled water — had no reliable access to clean drinking water at all.

What We did

Dr. Priya Saklani took the issue directly to the people who had the power to act. Our team met with SE (Superintending Engineer) Er. Sanjeev Soni of the Jal Shakti Vibhag to formally present the water crisis facing Kheel Jasli and seek institutional intervention.''

The meeting was productive and resulted in real movement. SDO IPH Mr. Bhanu and his team conducted an official site visit to the village — walking the terrain, inspecting existing water sources, and assessing the feasibility of installing a borewell or hand pump. Following the site visit, a hydrologist was commissioned to conduct a thorough geological inspection to identify the most suitable location for drilling.

Throughout this process, Earth Healers Foundation served as the bridge between the community and the government — representing the voices of residents who had raised the issue for years without being heard, and ensuring that the bureaucratic process moved forward with urgency rather than being shelved indefinitely.

Impact & Current status

The site visit and hydrologist inspection represent meaningful progress in a system that often moves slowly. For the first time, the water crisis in Kheel Jasli has been formally acknowledged by the relevant government department, documented, and placed on an active resolution path.

We are optimistic that the drilling will proceed and that residents will gain access to clean, reliable water. For the households that have gone without for years, this is not a small administrative milestone — it is the difference between dignity and daily hardship.

What's next

Earth Healers Foundation will continue to follow up with IPH and the local administration until the borewell is drilled, tested, and operational. We are also exploring rainwater harvesting systems and natural spring restoration as complementary solutions to reduce the village's dependence on any single water source. Clean water for Kheel Jashli is not a future ambition — it is an active, ongoing commitment.
