Strategic WINS

The most powerful proof that advocacy works is a changed outcome. In June 2024, we submitted a complaint. By September 2024, the problem was resolved. This is what persistence looks like.

Overview

The Challenge

The deliberate blockage of nallahs — natural drainage channels — by builders in Kheel Jasli had been causing serious and escalating damage to roads, properties, and the natural water cycle of the village for years. Rainwater that had previously drained naturally was being diverted or blocked, causing seasonal flooding, road erosion, and safety hazards for pedestrians and vehicles.

Residents had raised the issue informally for years. Nothing had happened. The builders had financial incentives to block the channels and faced no consequences for doing so. The PWD, despite being the responsible authority, had not acted.

What We did

Earth Healers Foundation approached the problem systematically. We documented the specific nallahs that had been blocked, photographed the damage caused, identified the responsible parties, and prepared a formal written complaint to XEN PWD — presenting clear evidence and a specific request for action. The complaint was submitted in June 2024. We followed up regularly, maintained communication with the relevant officials, and did not allow the matter to be quietly shelved.

Impact & Current status

By September 2024 — three months after our formal complaint — the PWD had cleared the major blocked nallah in Kheel Jasli. The immediate impact was visible: roads that had flooded seasonally were protected. The hazard that the blockage had created was removed. The community could see, physically and tangibly, that their voice had produced a result.

This was Earth Healers Foundation's first significant government win — and it demonstrated something important to the community: that documented, persistent, formal advocacy can produce real change, even when the odds seem weighted against it.

What's next

Earth Healers Foundation is documenting all remaining infrastructure and environmental violations in our adopted villages and will continue to pursue formal resolutions through the appropriate government channels. Each win, however small, builds the community's belief in its own power to demand what it is entitled to.
